CORE VALUES

  • Martial arts has always been a way for self-improvement. Whether mentally, emotionally, or physically, martial arts will help you achieve your goals.

  • Nothing anyone does in life can be successful without some aspect of discipline. Jiu Jitsu and martial arts will challenge kids and adults to be disciplined in their approach not only to martial arts but life in general. To be successful in martial arts, you must show up, train hard but smart, and put in the extra effort at home.

  • Humility is one of the hardest things for some to learn in the world of martial arts. There will be times that you will lose to an opponent who is smaller, weaker, and slower than you but with greater skill. We must be ok with the loss and learn from it. If you show up without humility, you will get hurt or injured and may walk away from an incredible sport.

  • Be accountable to yourself and to others. Training, working out, eating a balanced diet are all things that we should be held accountable to. At Rolling River you will be held accountable to work hard and learn.

  • Earning a black belt in any martial arts should not be based solely on someone’s physical prowess. At Rolling River, we believe that a blackbelt in any martial arts should be a black belt on and off the mats. One should have a black belt attitude not only in Jiu Jitsu, karate, boxing, kickboxing, etc, but also in work, school, marriage, and life in general. We should strive to be the best in all aspects of life.

10 Rules on The mat

  1. Bow on and off the mat. This helps to keep control of what is happening in the gym and to help keep the mats clean and sanitized. This is also a sign of respect to the teacher and presents the student as ready to learn.

  2. Always be respectful to the teacher, students, and other parents.

  3. Arrive in clean uniform. Wash all workout attire after being on the mats and show up in clean uniform or workout attire for each session. This helps keep the mat clean and the students healthy.

  4. Keep long hair pulled back or braided. This helps with hair pulling and keeping it out of the faces of fellow students.

  5. Trim finger and toenails. This prevents unintentional scraps and scratches.

  6. Small scratches/cuts need to be covered and wrapped. This will help to limit infections for others and yourself.

  7. Do not train if you have a rash of any sort. Ringworm and staff are a big deal and we want to limit this to the best of our ability.

  8. Listen to your body. If you are too sore or are hurt, limit training or lighten your training to help prevent injuries. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

  9. Arrive to class on time.

  10. Be humble. You will be pushed and you will be beat a lot during this journey.

  11. Bonus Rule - HAVE FUN!!!!!!
